To Quit or Not to Quit?
A Linkedin post by Barbara Corcoran, one of the most prominent Sharks, inspired me to start this new series on the Gryffin blog: Tales of Entrepreneurship. In her post, Barbara encourages entrepreneurs to persevere and never give up. She cited her long list of successes as a direct result of her unwillingness to quit, an inspiration to us all.
As a small-to-medium SEO agency, we face many daily struggles, including balancing the needs of our clients, team members, and the needs of our own growing firm. In addition, as a business owner, CEO, and mother of 3, one severely disabled, i’m constantly asked how I keep up with it all.
My answer is always the same: I just never stop trying.
If I was a quitter, my son wouldn’t be alive today. Our business would’ve disappeared after Google’s first Penguin update, where literally every single one of our clients was affected.
Yes – I confess – we were link buyers. In the olden days, buying links was so effective and lucrative for our clients that we partook in this tactic to wild success. After Penguin 1, the fun, easy days of the wild wild web were over and the reality of the daily grind set in.
We get many calls by businesses whose sites were decimated by one or another of Google’s penalties, asking – should I continue trying, or give up?
Raising the Stakes
My answer is always the same. Google has upped the ante, and many website owners will give up, pack up, and go home.
Those who stick it out, adapting, adjusting to new realities, and fight to create new strategies will persevere and in the end, reap the rewards.
Starting a New Discourse
At Gryffin, we work really hard to provide you with in-depth instructional guides and instructographics about how to succeed in online marketing. Barbara’s post inspired me to think beyond SEO and online marketing, and share some of the other challenges that we face as a company and as individuals.
It inspired me to start sharing my own experiences as Gryffin’s CEO, and some of the obstacles I’ve faced and the strategies used to overcome them.
Let us know in the comments if there is anything in particular you’d like us to share.
